2/7/2023 Into the Ice, a Screening of an Environmental Documentary, Presented by WC's Center for Environment & Society

Join CES for a free, exclusive screening of a thrilling environmental documentary, following three scientists during their research adventures on the Greenland ice sheet. This film screening is Part II of our "Polar Expedition with Washington College" series and is a precursor to the second exciting guest in WC's Polar Expedition Speaker Series, Arctic Climatologist and Glaciologist, Dr. Jason Box, who stars in this film. Watch the expedition that led to the discovery of Shackleton's ship, Endurance on the big screen! The public is invited to a showing of The History Channel special, "Endurance: The Hunt for Shackleton's Ice Ship” at Norman James Theatre. The show chronicles the extraordinary conditions and efforts required of the expedition team to find the shipwreck and features upcoming WC Speaker Mensun Bound.  Free and open to the public. 4/12/2023 “The Ship Beneath the Ice: The Discovery of Shackleton’s Endurance in Antarctica,” a Talk with Marine Archaeologist Mensun Bound

Join CES for the epic conclusion of our Center's "Polar Expedition with Washington College" series when the director of exploration for the expedition that found Ernest Shackleton's lost ship, Endurance in the Antarctic sea ice in 2022 shares his story of the discovery, as well as information from his newly-released book—The Ship Beneath the Ice: The Discovery of Shackleton's Endurance—which chronicles his adventures. (The book is available now in the Washington College Bookstore.) A book signing and wine and cheese reception with live music provided by WC's Jazz Combo will follow his talk in the Underwood Lobby.
