Writing Group

Come join a community of writers and make sustained progress on your academic writing goals.

Are you working on a writing project this semester, or maybe even multiple writing assignments?

Consider joining the weekly Writing Group. This year, the Writing Group is meeting on Sundays from 12noon to 2:30pm on the main floor of Miller library. Look for peer writing consultant Evan's tabletop sign. Drop ins are welcome! Writing Group is a dedicated place and time to make progress on your writing goals.

What is Writing Group About?

Every week, participants who attend Writing Group will set a writing goal that can be achieved in a 2-hour writing block. Then group members will write independently for 2 hours, coming together to debrief about the progress and make goals for next week. Sounds simple right? You'd be amazed at how much progress you will make with two hours of uninterrupted, focused writing time. Being in the presence of others who are striving toward similar writing goals is an incredible source of motivation and community.

What do I need to do or bring?

No need to sign up in advance, just stop in to the main floor of Miller library at 12noon on Sundays. Bring your laptop and anything else you use to write, like headphones, books, and paper. You can come to Writing Group every week, or just once!

What if I need help?

Writing Group is facilitated by a peer writing consultant who will lead the group and keep time. This group facilitator will also be available during the 2-hour writing block for quick 1:1 tutorials if you have a question about citation or grammar, or if you feel in a writing rut and need to talk through it!
